I see that Auntie Jo still has some more 'splaining to do!

gapeach mentioned that when she makes a recipe up, that her hubby comes in and looks at it, and asks "What's this stuff?"  Okay, this is a crucial part of creating a recipe...you have to NAME it.

I don't care if you never make it again, you must name EVERYTHING.  If you can't think of a name, or you run out of ideas, just pick a language that he doesn't know, go to http://www.freetranslation.com/ and type something strange into the box, (try to keep it in the food line, so it sounds legit), and then practice saying it.  It really doesn't matter if your pronounciation is correct, remember, he doesn't know the language.  You practice saying it, so that it sounds like you know what you're talking about!   That way, when he asks "what is THIS stuff" you look him straight in the eye, and say, "Why it's 'Le boeuf et le Pruneau Cuisent en cocotte'!"  (Beef and Prune Casserole)  He is none the wiser, and impressed that you've learned to cook French food!

Now, I know that sounds funny, and kind of mean, (which makes it even funnier, to me ), but trust me, it works.  Even if you give it a "real" name, in English, it works.  My hubby now has to ask "Is this a makey-up?"  (A question you only "hear" and answer, if it is asked AFTER the meal, and preceded by "oh, Babe, that was so good..."!  Otherwise you have a bad case of selective deafness!).  Oh, and if he can't tell whether it's a "real" recipe, or one you've made up, then that can be either a really good thing, or a really bad thing.  Because it means that either if the recipe was fantastic, that you're a good cook, but if the recipe was really bad, then you're a horrible cook to begin with!

Okay, Auntie Jo's brain is tired now, from all this writing, and must go out to the kitchen and start thinking about this evening's meal.  What shall we have tonight?  Hmmmm...maybe "Loin von Ziege mit einer Seite der Braten" (Loin of Goat, with a side of Fries).

Thanks for the blog Jo, it was great. Sometimes you just call it chicken stuff or something with beef. You got a great sense of humor. Talk to you soon.
