Cheese Straws
The Southern Living Cookbook (c 1987)

2 c (8 oz) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1/2 c butter, softened
1 1/2 c flour
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 - 1/2 tsp red pepper

Combine cheese and butter in a large mixing bowl. Beat at medium
speed to combine well. In another bowl, combine the remaining
ingredients. Add this to the cheese mixture, gradually. Mix until
dough is no longer crumbly. Shape dough into a ball.

Use a cookie gun to shape dough into straws, using manufacturer' s
directions.

--OR--

Divide dough into fourths. On wax paper, roll each piece into a
rectangle 1/3" thick. Use a pastry wheel (or sharp knife) to cut
dough into 2 x 1/2" strips.

Place the strips onto an ungreased baking sheet and bake 375° for 10-
12 minutes, or until lightly browned. Store in airtight containers,
placing wax paper between layers. Yeild: 8 dozen
