This is one of those "just perfect" desserts to serve your guests after you have stuffed then with a filling meal!
Usually after we have finished eating, I put on a fresh pot of coffee for everyone to enjoy while I am hurrying and cleaning up the dishes. I already have the flour and sugar measured and in a bowl ready to make this dessert before guests even show up. Ths sour cream and milk are already combined and in the fridge (covered). So all I have to do is preheat the oven while I am doing dishes; melt the butter and stir to blend. While they are baking I am whipping my cream and my berries are sliced. I also add raspberries, blueberries or blackberries. When the biscuits are done I let them cool for a few minutes while I get the dessert dishes ready and it's like an assembly line - split, fill and top - and everyone enjoys it.
2 cups self-rising flour 3 tablespoons sugar 1/4 cup butter melted 1/3 cup sour cream 2/3 cup milk At least 6 cups sliced strawberries 1 cup whipping cream whipped with 1 tablespoon sugar
Heat oven to 400. Lightly grease a large baking sheet.
In medium mixing bowl, combine self-rising flour and sugar. In smaller bowl, combine melted butter, sour cream and milk. Whisk well, then pour over dry ingredients. Stir just until blended. Drop dough by large heaping spoonfuls onto baking sheet. Bake at 400 for 20 minutes. Split warm shortcakes, fill with berries and softly whipped cream. Makes eight to 10 servings.
