Date: 11/19/2008 20:21:56
Posted by: GrandmaCooks
Ingredients

2/3 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
¼ tsp molasses
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp baking soda
2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 ½ tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cloves

 Directions:

Cream butter and sugar, then add egg and molasses and beat well.
Add dry ingredients and mix well.
Roll 1/8 inch thick on slightly floured surface.
Cut into desired shapes.
Bake on slightly greased cookie sheet for 10 minutes in a preheated 350 degree oven.

My Comments:
This recipe came from my 7th grade Home Ec Class, many years ago. Our teacher said it was an old family recipe. My notes: I have trouble handling this dough to roll it out—it always seems a little sticky. I roll it into logs, wrap with wax paper and chill in the freezer, then slice and bake. For holiday cookies, use shaped cookie cutters and decorate with colored sugar or as desired. Use your imagination.
