Title: Italian Beer Bread

3 cups all-pupose flour

1 Tablespoon granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 Tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon dried basil (or 1 Tablespoon fresh)

1 teaspoon dried oregano (or 1 Tablespoon fresh)

2 minced cloves of garlic

½ cup finely grated Asiago Cheese

12 ounces beer

optional glaze: 1 egg & 2 teaspoons water, beaten

(the optional egg glaze gives the top a beautiful dark golden color).

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Combine all dry ingredients and mix well. Slowly stir in beer and mix just until combined. Batter will be thick. Spread in a greased 8-inch loaf pan, brush with egg glaze if desired, and bake until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean -- about 45 minutes.

Cool in the pan on a rack for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool 10 more minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature.

My Comments:
I got this recipe from my friend, Jody, who was given it by one of her friends. It\\\'s a wonderful blend of herbs and cheese, and you don\\\'t get a real strong yeast taste, like you do from a lot of beer breads. If you don\\\'t have Asiago Cheese, you can use other hard cheeses in it\\\'s place, like Parmeasan or Romano.
