2 cups warm water

2 Tablespoons butter

˝ cup honey

1 Tablespoon unsweetened cocoa

1 Tablespoon granulated sugar

2 teaspoons instant coffee

1 teaspoon salt

1 Tablespoon Caramel Coloring

1 package yeast

3 cups all-purpose flour

3 cups whole wheat flour

Melt the butter in the warm water. Add honey, cocoa, sugar, coffee, salt and caramel coloring. Add the 3 cups of all-purpose flour and the yeast. Beat well for about 5-8 minutes.

Gradually add the whole wheat flour. Knead 8-10 minutes.

Place in buttered bowl, or rising bucket, and let rise, in a warm spot until double in size.

Punch down and divide in half. Form two loaves, and place them in buttered bread pans. Cover loosely with a linen towel, and allow to rise until double in size.

Preheat oven to 350°. Bake loaves in oven for 35-40 minutes, until bread is done. A completely done loaf of bread will sound “hollow” when tapped on the bottom.

*Caramel Coloring is available in specialty stores, or on-line.

My Comments:
Original recipe. We love the Bushman Bread served at Outback Steak house. There are a lot of copy-cat recipes on line, which make the multi-mini loaves, but I came up with this recipe for a 2-loaf standard bread recipe, so it can be used to make sandwiches.
