A little girl was sitting on her grandfather's lap as he read her a bedtime story. From time to time, she would take her eyes off the book and reach up to touch his wrinkled cheek. She was alternately stroking her own cheek, then his again. Finally she spoke up, "Grandpa, did God make you?""Yes, sweetheart," he answered,"God made me a long time ago." "Oh," she paused, "Grandpa, did God make me too?""Yes, indeed, honey," he said, "God made you just a little while ago."Feeling their respective faces again, she observed,"God's getting better at it, isn't he?"

I'm back and I'm cooking!!!So I'm in GA in my place now and cooking and loving it. So far I been focused on breakfast and some snacks but I have a recipe list I've been keeping to plan meals I'd like to try.My goal is to start with some basic recipes for every meal - including some snack and beferage recipes. So far my favorites are Morrocan mint tea, Home-made low-carb buffalo wings, spiced almonds, and southwest cajun shrimp!!!I'm on a low carb diet so I have to watch what I eat. This weekend I'm going to prepare seared tuna for the first time and I can't wait! It's one of my favorites whenever I eat out.

So last nite I was making my grandmas strudel recipe. and my mother calls and says that there is a forest fire 2 miles from our house. needless to say I left dinner on the stove and started getting things together in case we are evacuated, and about 3 hours of watching air tankers, helicopters and fire trucks go up the hill we get the all clear. thank god we escaped the fire again ( 5 years ago it almost took out our house, stopped 90 yards) but man dinner was ruined at it was too late to start a new batch.....but at least i still have a kitchen to cook in.hehe, cathi

Oh how I just love reading the headlines in the paper in the morning! The hackers did it again - got the credit card numbers and passwords to 41 million people and sold them. And many of the stores that they listed fell victim to this before. What happened to their new security features so that this does not happen?Of course - I shop and I use my card (debit card which is worse in my eyes than a credit card) in several of those stores. For peace of mind - I visited my bank today - had them cancel out my debit card completely - my card and information won't do anyone any good.I can wait the 7 to 10 days for a new card. But atleast I don't have to worry.Looks like I am going to return to the ways of the old days - pay cash for everything. No headaches that way.

FINALLY!

As most of you know - I had a lot of computer problems with my old "roach" and I finally got a new computer.Well - to begin with - I HATE shopping for computers. Half the time you can't get the answers you want or the answers you get seem to be too easy/simple to believe. This is the time of the year where they put many computers and laptops on sale because of back-to-school.Best Buy had a nice sale - but after what they did to my roach (which helped it along it's road to doom) I will never go back there. And I have some choice words for their "geek squad" or whatever they call themselves. But I did find a nice one at Office Max.The one thing I did not like about it - VISTA operating system. The salesman (although they don't pay commissions for the sale of a computer) was very patient, listened to my many, many questions and was smart enough to give me the answers. Maybe they weren't answers I wanted to hear - but he gave me the proper answers. Too bad the one I wanted was out of stock and I had to drive over 40 miles to get the last one at another branch.Of course - I did have questions that I asked Ron - who also steered me in the right direction. So with a bit of confidence I decided to turn my life over to VISTA and bid a sad farewell to Windows XP.Oh how I miss my Windows XP!But slowly - like a fungus - VISTA is growing on me.One thing I will never like is the new dialer I have to use with Compuserve. And I really miss the Compuserve toolbar that I no longer get.But I'll live. And with this system I am not losing information. My roach lost a lot. I lost files, emails, folders, PATIENCE, time - you name it.So now I am as normal as I can be (yeah - right!) and I hope that I've answered all my PM's and emails to everyone. If not - drop me a line - things are working again - like they did before my roach got sick.I now have a bigger screen - more memory than ever - I can watch TV and burn movies - and do so much more.I've loaded in new software and I think I've got everything transferred from the roach to this one (THANK YOU RON! WITHOUT YOUR ADVICE I WOULD STILL BE DOING IT!)with the exception of a couple things I cannot get off the roach.Like my favorites from Compuserve. But I'm moving forward - hopefully in the right direction. And I have to admit - it's much less nerve-wracking with the new laptop. The roach? That little contraption worked it's heart of for me - gave me so much. I should bronze it! LOLOh and by the way - this laptop has letters on the keyboard! (they were worn off the roach completely!)

WOULDN'T IT BE WONDERFUL IF EVERYONE IN THE WORLD COULD BE FRIENDS? EVERYONE WOULD LOVE HELPING EVERYONE AND NO ONE EVER GOT MAD AT YOU FOR ANYTHING. I GUESS THAT WOULD BE JUST TO BORING AND A TOTAL PIPE DREAM. I'VE ALWAYS WONDERED WHAT THAT WOULD BE LIKE BUT, WITH SO MANY PEOPLE OUT FOR THEMSELVES ALL THE TIME THIS WILL NEVER BECOME REALITY. GROWING UP IN THE 60's I ALWAYS WONDERED WHY WE JUST COULDN'T ALL GET ALONG. WHAT A GREAT PLACE THIS WORLD WOULD BE BUT THAT IS JUST A DREAM AND LIKE THEY SAY...IT"S EASIER TO SMILE THAN TO FROWN. WE ALL NEED TO SMILE ALOT MORE, IT ALSO MAKES PEOPLE WONDER WHAT YOU'RE UP TO. DON'T YOU AGREE? HUGS TO ALL!!

setting the table with style

Seems we all have a great passion for food, so I thought about how I set my table. Every week I do a different design for napkin folding, and leave them on my table for the week. At dinner you must use the paper napkins, cause my creations are only for show. (laughing). My two youngest sons always guess what my creations are, our favourite is the bird of paradise. One son calls it a boat and the other calls it the Sydney Opera House. I would like to share this site with all of you, probably some or most of you have already come across it. The instructions are quite simply and you always have a great looking table for your family or guests. Enjoy Joeyhttp://www.napkinfoldingguide.com/

Sorry guys, I couldn't resist putting this one in.A police officer came upon a terrible wreck where the driver and passenger had been killed. As he looked upon the wreckage a little monkey came out of the brush and hopped around the crashed car. The officer looked down at the monkey and said "I wish you could talk." The monkey looked up at the officer and shook his head up and down. "You can understand what I'm saying?" asked the officer. Again, the monkey shook his head up and down. "Well, did you see this?" "Yes," motioned the monkey. "What happened?" The monkey pretended to have a can in his hand and turned it up by his mouth. "They were drinking?" asked the officer. The monkey shakes his head "Yes." "What else?" The monkey pinched his fingers together and held them to his mouth. "They were smoking marijuana?" The monkey shakes his head "Yes." "What else?" The monkey motioned "kissing." "They were kissing, too?" asked the astounded officer. The monkey shakes his head "Yes." "Now wait, you're saying your owners were drinking, smoking and kissing before they wrecked." The monkey shakes his head "Yes." "What were you doing during all this?" "Driving" motioned the monkey.

A man is in bed with his wife when there is a knock on the door. He rolls over and looks at his clock -- it's half-past three in the morning. 'I'm not getting out of bed at this time', he thinks, and rolls over. Then, a louder knock follows. 'Aren't you going to answer that?' says his wife. So, he drags himself out of bed and goes downstairs. He opens the door and there is man standing at the door. It didn't take the homeowner long to realize the man was drunk. 'Hi there,' slurs the stranger, 'Can you give me a push?' 'No. Get lost, it's half-past three. I was in bed,' says the man and slams the door. He goes back up to bed and tells his wife what happened and she says 'Dave, that wasn't very nice of you. Remember that night we broke down in the pouring rain on the way to pick the kids up from the baby-sitter and you had to knock on that man's door to get us started again? What would have happened if he'd told us to get lost?' 'But the guy was drunk,' says the husband. 'It doesn't matter,' says the wife. 'He needs our help and it would be the Christian thing to help him.' So, the husband gets out of bed again, gets dressed and goes downstairs. He opens the door and, not being able to see the stranger anywhere he shouts: 'Hey, do you still want a push?' and he hears a voice cry out 'Yeah please.' So, still being unable to see the stranger, he shouts: 'Where are you?' And the stranger replies: 'I'm over here, on your swing set.'

I have been cooking a lot at the legion. Two weeks ago I took a few days off and took over for the cook. I had free range with my menu so I tried something a little more out there than their usual fare. Wed. I had Sloppy Toms, sloppy joes made with turkey, french fried sweet potatoes, home made cole slaw, not out of a box, and pudding supprise, chocolate pudding with vanilla inside. That went pretty well, about $200 at $5.00 a plate. Then on Thursday I made hugh ham steaks, with the bone in, an orange and lime caramel glaze, home made scalopped potatoes, green beans with bacon and ginger and a giant cookie with fresh whipped cream and marachino cherry. My suse made an absolutly fabulous drizzle for the cookie with the marrichino juice. That dinner sold out big time. I had 46 ham steaks and before it was over I had to cut slabs off a buffet ham to take care of the overflow. That one was $6.00 a plate. Then on Friday it all came crashing down aroundmy ears. I made Po' Mans Fillet, a slow roasted 8 oz piece of pot roast wrapped in ham and croissant dough, baked again and served with sauteed mushroom caps, grilled leeks with garlic infused extra virgin olive oil and home made kluski noodles cooked in the au juice from the roasts. For dessert we had my grannies apples and dumplins made with granny smith apples, brown sugar, molassas, pancake syrup and cinnamon and drop biscuits on top like chicken and dumplins. I had 56 of the fillets and sold 13 at $6.00 each. We still made $250 but almost all of it was bar menu deep fried stuff like mushrooms, chicken tenders and cheese sticks and hamburgers. To say the least I was a little dissapointed but we broke down the beef and saved it for beef and noodles on the next Thursday. How ignominious. On the other hand every one of the 13 that tried the dinner just loved it, including the leeks. I guess it is something.

Late March and I submitted my application to a National Corp. The next day I was asked to come in for an interview. Showed up and found it was a lead position on a very busy station and set a date to meet the chef the following week. The day befor eI showed up, they had a young person, who had been on leave, call and say he wanted to return to work for the company. They gave him my position. They offered me a job as a cashier. Benefits and a decent hourly wage..... I accepted the offer. I started work mid- April. The first two weeks were difficult and I was having alot of over-rings and shortages. I was slow at beverage stocking. twice aday. Iwas up at 4:30, drove 25 minutes into the city (17.5 mi.)and started work at 6:30.The cash register and I eventually became associates and I was completing tasks assigned, early. I was then asked to go to anaother cafeteria to cover for a maternity leave. I was to shadow the mum for a week and then she would leave.Baby came 3 weeks early. I started the new job with minimal outlines of work. Each day I spent trying to learn a new (to me) old cashregister. I was also told to learn the machine. Day 2. Things went from bad to worse on the till and the other jobs had become easy and almost mechanical. What didn't improve were my over rings and shortages. There is no way to void a transaction or change an item unless you cash out and start over. After my second week, Corporate said I had to be terminated. Funnily after my second week at the first location,I told them that I would like to be transferred to the kitchen. They kept bringing new people in and I stayed where I was. I know that we should persue our strengths, but I also felt that learning another aspect of the industry was as important.Right now I feel I was set up for failure whilst trying to learn a new situation. I'm very disappointed in Large Corps. that from a distance , are not bothered with the situation a person has been put in but the black and white numbers that show failure.I spent a weekend being angry and crying. I then organized my cooking and baking supplies and cleaned up from a party for 50 that I had done this past weekend. I cleaned house and helped lay sod. I silently cursed my husband for tilling to deep and cutting the phone cables which disconnected my phone and internet.Friday, I called to set an interview appt. I have been delayed until Monday morning.I will look in the paper again tomorrow, Sunday. Am I doing the right thing? Am I right in feeling hurt and disappointed at the way this was handled? I will contine to search for a job and figure out what I'm supposed to be doing. I Know that I'll find something and that it will be the right place for me.
